Gallows 02:38
My head is spinning, I cannot breathe Humanities poison is killing me Trembling Agony Cut the ties Set me free I trusted you, you stabbed me in my back I don't know you, get away from me Tempting outcasts with promises, "new hope" for tomorrow Keep your head in the clouds, keep your heart in the ground Led to the noose, you'll hang for eternity I trusted you, you stabbed me in my back I don't know you, get away from me The frayed ropes The guilty soul The vultures cry It's your time to die
2.
Gaslighter 02:43
Pick it up! Here we are again, standing face to face Gnashing teeth, throwing punches for days You tried to validate it to get what you wanted You know what you did, now you're the hunted You bit the hand that feeds Forbidden fruit that makes you bleed God knows I tried to show you the light You made your deal with the creatures of the night When they come to claim your soul Don't cry for the love you threw away You bit the hand that feeds Forbidden fruit that makes you bleed God knows I tried to show you the light You made your deal with the creatures of the night You're just a snake, masquerading as a goddess Waiting to strangle your next victim No You'll never seduce me back to being who I was You bigot
3.
Tomb 02:41
Move! I want to know why he was taken away A man of faith condemned to suffer seven years of torture I didn't "pray hard enough", I didn't "have hope" when I should have Damned for my convictions, enough is enough Platitudes and a stigma of a perfect community You won't amuse the people in pain Discrediting the trials they face The life was gone from his eyes as he took his final breath I was you, you will be me Will I be the man he wanted me to be Will he be proud as he watches over me Enter the tomb, and leave your pain I miss you Why did you go Fading father Failing son
4.
Finalizer 02:50
You said you loved me but you left Calling for you, leaving me with no breath Putting myself through all of the stress With every moment I'd second guess you Liar. Temptress. Coward. Regret. Still search for a remedy To rid my mind of your memory Distorted sense of security See my mistakes Feel the remorse I will not get retribution How many lives will you ruin How many hearts will you deceive How long until you feel my hurt Or am I damned to never be whole I'll call you out until my voice silences
5.
Relapse 02:59
I'm just so sick and tired of being told I'll be okay You never know when it's your time to go Reset the clocks and suffer again Breaking your back because you care to much You'll never learn, you can't fix everyone So look in the mirror and help yourself Another morning depression holds me to my bed Being told it's all my fault when I'm not to blame Reset the clocks and suffer again Breaking your back because you care to much You'll never learn, you can't fix everyone So look in the mirror and help yourself I'm not the one to blame I am not my mistakes Reset the clocks and suffer again Breaking your back because you care to much You'll never learn, you can't fix everyone So look in the mirror and help yourself And when the relapse hits, will we survive, will you survive Will you survive

about

"I Was You, You Will Be Me" is the debut EP from the northeastern Ohio metalcore outfit, Ritual Eulogy. Formerly known as Bear Your Cross, the group explores their ever-growing sound in this 5-song barrage of breakdowns, riffs, and bombarding vocals.

"After a brief hiatus for some self-reinvention, Mount Vernon-based metal outfit Ritual Eulogy, formerly known as Bear Your Cross, now approaches with a new vision the release of their debut EP under the aforementioned moniker. "I Was You, You Will Be Me" drops October 26, and brings with its thought-provoking title and eerie cover art a handful of songs that cross pollinate the metal and hardcore influences of the band. The EP conjures up a mixture of bands in the ear of the listener, ranging from Alabama heavyweights Gideon, to admitedly short-lived Victory Records signees WIth Blood Comes Cleansing, and even Varials. The result is simultaneously groove-heavy and bordering on beatdown at times.
The EP opens with the panicked "Gallows" and goes into the bands first single off the EP "Gaslighter", a track that comes in full speed with pure hardcore style and groove and then enters an almost dysphoric bass-predominant verse resolving in yet more groove. "Tomb" follows, and is one of my favorites. Then "Finalizer" starts with a very Norma Jean-esque riff before taking us to the albums spiraling barrage of a closer, "Relapse".
Throughout these five songs, bearded beauty Michael James Houck's vocals go between a sizzling bacon-grease fry to gutterals that'll make your stomach go WHOMP, and drummer Jeremiah Wrucke's tight percussive contributions against the riff heavy tag team of guitarist Dan Cheyney and bassist Jordan Daniel Sloan end up making "I Was You, You Will Be Me" an EP well worth the time of both Riff-Daddy Metalheads and HxC kids alike. Bump this and two-step, my dudes."
